PCC secretaries’ appointment triggers strong reaction

The appointment of former Deputy Speaker Buragadda Vedavyas and former city Mayor Muthamsetti Ratnabindu, both from the Kapu community, as PCC general secretaries triggered a strong reaction from the ranks of the Congress party in Krishna district on Monday.

BC, SC, ST and minority leaders who were expecting PCC posts went on the offensive and began putting pressure on various senior leaders.

A BC leader, who has been very active, reportedly called Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and complained to him about the choice of the PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana.

Many leaders from other communities sent fax massages to AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Minister incharge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Monopolisation alleged

They said all the important party posts in the district were already being held by Kapus.

Starting from the MARKFED Chairman Kanchi Rama Rao, the chairmen of the Agricultural Market Yard and Vijaya Krishna Super Bazar also belonged to the community.

The Krishna District Committee incharge president Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao and the City Congress incharge president Adapa Nagendram were also from the community.

While the Congress cadres were soft on Mr Vedavyas, they were tough on Ms Ratnabindu asking her what she had done to be conferred such an important party post just before election year.

Some detractors even said that Ms Ratnabindu had become less active and was not being seen at the party office.
