Paper leak: What about the big fish, asks Jagan

Small fry being blamed, says the YSR Congress president

The State Government which tried to hush up a “mistake” with regard to the leak of tenth standard examination paper from an institution that belongs to Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana’s family was now trying to blame it on an employee — an invigilator, alleged Leader of the Opposition and YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In an informal chat with the media in his chambers in the Legislative Assembly after walking out of the House to register his protest against not being permitted to speak on the matter, Mr. Jagan said the government had refused to admit that a mistake had happened until the matter was highlighted by the YSR Congress in the Assembly.

Reading from a daily situation report filed by the Director of Government Examination, Mr Jagan said, “The District Educational Officer, Nellore, has informed that question paper was sent through WhatsApp from centre no. 4238, Narayana H.S., Nellore. He has initiated disciplinary action against chief superintendent, department officer and invigilator. An inquiry is being conducted in the matter and an FIR is being filed.”

Mr Jagan said an admission had been made that a “mistake has been committed in the daily situation report”, but this was hushed up initially. Only when the matter was highlighted in the Assembly did the Government hesitantly admit to it and announced that action was initiated against the invigilator.

“What about the management? Why would a small employee do something like this without the instructions of the management?” he asked.

The YSR Congress party tried to present the daily status report in the Assembly, but was not allowed to. Chief Ministers ordered CBI to inquire into such mistakes in the past and Ministers resigned accepting responsibility, Mr. Jagan said.

He said the State Government did not seem to be least bit interested in the future of the 6.5 lakh students who were writing the exam. What about the students who prepared hard for the examination, he asked.
