Members of the Road Safety Committee, headed by Collector Budhaprakash M. Jyothi, visited several areas in the city on Thursday.

The Collector along with Police Commissioner N. Madhusudhan Reddy, Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner G.S. Pandadas, Deputy Transport Commissioner A. Mohan and other officials visited the busy roads and junctions to review the safety aspect at these places.

They discussed on regulation/diversion of traffic on some busy roads, taking up repairs for roads, installing signals, constructing bus shelters, measures to prevent parking of vehicles along the roads and setting up of paid parking at some points.

Mr. Budhaprakash directed the VMC and the Police officials to arrange dividers on the ghat road at Sri Kanaka Durga temple up to Kummaripalem Centre to prevent road accidents.

As the vehicles coming from Hyderabad are entering the city from Prakasam Barrage, and the Errakatta Road was damaged causing accidents, the Collector asked the municipal authorities to complete the tender process and take up repair works.

Traffic signals at BRTS Road, Seetammapeta, Ramakoti, Food Junction, Madhuranagar and Padavalarevu should be installed with Rs.10 lakh MLA funds, he said and asked them to submit proposals for the works immediately.

Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy said accidents can be prevented only when the public follow traffic rules. He underlined the need for installing CC cameras and public addressing systems at some junctions.

The APSRTC should organise counselling for the drivers to stop buses at bus bays only and on following traffic rules, he said.

Nuzvid Revenue Divisional Officer B. Subba Rao, APSRTC Regional Manager Gopinath Reddy, National Highways Authority of India Project Director C.S.N. Murthy, and Traffic Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police A. V. Ramana wre among those who attended the meeting.
