Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas Panabaka Lakshmi on Monday laid the foundation stone for a new sports complex at Agriculture College here.
The indoor sports complex named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is being built with Rs.6 crore and is scheduled to be completed within six months.
Ms. Lakshmi said that agriculture continues to play an important role in the nation’s economy and called upon the students to pursue research for better yielding and disease resistant crops. The indoor sports complex has become a possibility due to the efforts of Union Agricultural Minister Sharad Pawar and Sports Minister Jitendra Singh.
She said that efforts have been made to solve many pending problems in the college. Solar electrification has been done to women’s hostel at a cost of Rs.5 lakh and soon a protected water plant would be set up on the hostel premises. She asked the students to make full use of mini stadium.
Joint Secretary (Development), Ministry of Youth Affairs, Department of Sports, G.S.G Ayyangar, an alumnus of the college, said that the sport complex would be completed within six months with state-of-art facilities for recreation and exercise. Vice-Chancellor of Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University A.. Padma Raju , board member Nagabhushunam, principal Subbaiah, students and scholars were present.
