The panel expresses concern over the official’s absence at a review meet
Expressing concern over the absence of Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Azeem during the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) review meeting here on Friday, the panel directed him to appear before the PAC on October 17.
Speaking to the newsmen later, PAC Chairman Revuri Prakash Reddy said that the committee served summons on the Commissioner and the matter would be taken to the notice of the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration).
The VMC had allocated 10 acres of land to Sriram Power Generation Project, on the city outskirts, but, it was alleged that the company had mortgaged the land violating the norms.
The VMC officials, however, could not clarify as to whether the land was mortgaged; any criminal case was booked against the parties involved and the delay in taking up the project.
The PAC directed the District Collector Buddha Prakash M. Jyothi to conduct a review on the issue and submit a report.
We received complaints on deviation of Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTMUDA) plans by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on outer ring road, he said.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner clarified that as he was busy filing a recall petition in the High Court, over a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued by the Third Metropolitan Magistrate Court, in Vijayawada, he had sent his officials.
In the note issued to the press on Friday, the Commissioner said that since he was attending to the draft of NBW over phone with the legal superintendent, he had asked the Superintending Engineer and Chief Medical and Health Officer to attend the PAC meeting.
“I have highest regard for the PAC and had no intention to neglect or avoid the review meeting.
I rushed to the meeting hall and explained the Committee Chairman the reasons for the delay in attending the review meeting”, said Mr. Azeem.
