The district police seized 28 bags of ganja and arrested five persons in a raid on the outskirts of Vaddipa and Ratnampeta villages under Narsipatnam sub-division on Thursday.
Giving details to the media at Narsipatnam, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Narsipatnam) Tafseer Iqubal said that the Rolugunta SI and his party conducted the raid on a tip-off and seized the bags containing 1,120 kg of ganja and arrested five persons while five others were absconding.
He said that 45 cases were booked, 127 accused were arrested, 7,200 kg ganja, Rs.1,64,000 cash and 33 vehicles were seized in Narsipatnam sub-division during 2012. A total of 84 sheets were opened in Rolugunta police station on ganja traffickers.
A majority of those who were involved in the trafficking of ganja were from B.B. Patnam, M.K.Patnam, Butchimpeta, Ratnampeta, Yetigyrampeta and Dondapudi villages. Vaddipa villagers have joined the list recently.
Mr. Tafseer Iqubal said that financial investigation under section 68(F) of NDPS Act was initiated against two persons during the year and seizure of properties was confirmed by the competent authority i.e., NCB, Chennai.
Separate teams were formed for collecting the information of bank accounts, bank transaction and arrest of the accused who were absconding.
