: On a mission to create awareness about organic farming , organic farmers took out a rally in city as part of the State-wide Gow Adharitha Prakrithi Vyvasaya Chaitanya Yatra on Monday.

Industrialist and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation president-elect M. Murali Krishna flagged off the rally.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Murali Krishna emphasised need for consuming organic products to keep ailments at bay.

Mr. Murali Krishna along with GAPVS vice-president MCV Prasad demanded that the State government set up a laboratory to certify organic products before sending them to market for sale as there are traders using ‘organic’ tag to gain profits out of non-organic produce.

“Govt. must do its bit’’

“The State is spending thousands of crores on healthcare services. Instead it can spend part of it to promote organic products and farming effectively. That will subsequently bring down health problems among people. A certification mechanism is needed in the first place,” Mr. Murali Krishna said.

“Twenty-five percent of the households in urban areas can grow vegetables and fruits in their homes. The government need to come up with subsidies for organic products to increases sales as well as productivity,” he added.

Members of Gow Adharitha Prakithi Vyvasayadarula Sangam and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh had launched the rally in February at Tirupati.

Rallies will also be conducted in Nuzvid, Chintalapudi of West Godavari, Jaggampet of East Godavari, Chodawaram of Visakhapatnam, Parvatipuram of Vizianagaram and Kaviti of Srikakulam.
