All-party leaders and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Joint Action Committee members staged a rasta roko on Monday demanding payment of salaries to the civic employees who were on a warpath for more than 10 days, from government treasury.
Speaking to media persons, Vijayawada urban Telugu Desam Party convener V. Vamsi Mohan flayed Member of Parliament Lagadapati Rajagopal and other Congress legislators for not resolving the issue.
“It is sad to see the corporation slipping into a debt trap and the State government should be blamed for the step-motherly treatment meted out to VMC”.
CPI(M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao said the employees were suffering owing to rules and regulations suggested by the JNNURM scheme. “The corporation is systematically mortgaging the public assets to implement the JNNURM works.
CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar objected the government step to divert employees' salaries, provident and ESI funds and owed to offer continued support till the demands were met.
