The district unit of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) will observe Child and Adolescent Healthcare Week from November 8. The week will culminate on Children’s Day. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, IAP district secretary P.S.N. Murthy said that the theme of the week was “Promoting emotional intelligence — A novel psychological vaccine.”

Paediatricians and members of the academy would participate in several programmes to promote awareness about the steps that were needed to encourage emotional intelligence of those in age group of 10 to 19 years. Forty per cent of the total population fell in this age group and only eight per cent of the children/adolescents had well developed emotional intelligence, according to a study, he said.

Paediatricians and psychiatrists would address parents and students on subjects related to the theme of emotional intelligence. Interactive sessions would be conducted between doctors and students belonging to general, medical and nursing disciplines.
