The ONGC integrates social and environmental issues with its overall strategy of operations to bring about a socio-economic change in society, said A.A. Khan, Executive Director - Asset Manager, ONGC, Rajahmundry Asset, on Tuesday.
Speaking at a meeting organised in connection with the disbursement of aid at Malleswaram in Bantumilli mandal of Krishna district as part of the organisation's Corporate Social Responsibility, Mr. Khan said the ONGC had been funding HelpAge India to run 20 mobile medical units (MMU) in operational areas for the last five years across the country. Of them, three MMUs catered to the preliminary medical needs of the elderly belonging to BPL families in Krishna, East and West Godavari districts, he added. Mr. Khan said the Rajahmundry unit alone had contributed nearly Rs. 3 crore towards various welfare programmes as part of CSR in 2010-11 and an additional Rs. 25 lakh under component plan for SC/ST development.
President of the All-India SC/ST Employees Welfare Association D.M.R. Sekhar heaped praises on the organisation for its empathy towards the needy in society. He said the ONGC was always in the forefront in taking up projects that promoted employable skills among the deserving poor.
General Manager (D) HDS, P.K. Rao, said such programmes could help alleviate poverty at the grassroots-level.
Assistance worth Rs. 8.60 lakh was distributed in the form of classroom furniture, drinking water facility and repairs to the MPP school at Nadupur in Krishna district.
General Manager (Civil) Arun Nangia, General Manager (Reservoir) A.M. Krishna, General Manager (Wells) K.S. Murthy, DGM-HSE Gururajan, DGM (L) –HWS N. Kanneraju and a host of others were present.
