One person was killed while another severely injured in a road accident on the NH 44, passing through the district in the early hours of Tuesday. At around 5 a.m. a lorry going towards Bangalore from Anantapur rammed into a truck parked on the road side near the Parvatadevarapalli village of the Kanaganapalli mandal of the Anantapur District. The collision led to the death of one of the drivers on the spot, while another person, the cleaner was severely injured.

While the injured was soon shifted to the Anantapur Government General Hospital for treatment, his condition continues to be very critical, the doctors at the hospital told The Hindu.

Meanwhile, the identity of the deceased as well as the injured is yet to be accurately established by the police.

A spate of accidents has forced the District Administration to take up identification of high-risk spots on the roads leading to accidents across the district and working towards altering such spots besides conducting a drive to check for driving licences. The drive does not seem to have any impact and the accidents continue in the district.
