The guests were in for a pleasant surprise as they were accorded a warm welcome by Kaavadi performers decked with flowers and peacock feathers. The spectacle caught everybody's eyes at the beginning of the day-long Onam celebrations which were held along with the 17th anniversary of the city-based Kerala Club.

The Siddhartha Auditorium was packed with Malayalis from different walks of life in the city. Through the day, a variety of programmes were organised in which the youngsters, schoolchildren, couples and the elderly participated.

The Kerala Club made it a point that Kerala Government Chief Whip P.C. George and other dignitaries were treated to a rare experience of all known traditions and customs reminiscent of their culture. From the unique Pookalam flower patterns to the inimitable Kathakali dance forms, the organisers made sure the visitors had a memorable day.
