The 48th birthday of AICC president Rahul Gandhi was celebrated in a novel way with the Youth Congress organising 5 K run for the cause of Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh.

AICC secretary and person in-charge of Odisha Gidugu Rudraraju and former MLA Mastanvalli participated in the run which started from Dharna Chowk at Alankar Centre and went along Sambamurthi Road.

Youth Congress national secretary Vootla Varaprasad said AICC president Rahul Gandhi said that he would be happy if the celebration was used to take a message to the people. The run was organised in all State capitals and in Andhra Pradesh, the issue highlighted was SCS.

The run was followed by a cake-cutting programme at the Andhraratna Bhavan, the PCC head office of the State. Former Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi, who cut the cake, said that the Congress should come to power to provide security for the downtrodden.

Crucial meet today

Mr. Rudraraju said under the leadership of Mr. Gandhi, more youth and student leaders would be given importance.

Later, he said that Mr. Gandhi is having a meeting with A.P. leaders at 11 a.m. in New Delhi on Wednesday. Former Union Ministers, MPs, state Minister and some current office-bearers were invited for the meeting that would decide the course of the party in the State, he said.
