Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu has asked officials to evict the people living in dangerous conditions near the Subrahmanya Swamy temple in Kothapet here.
The Commissioner and Vijayawada (West) MLA Velampalli Srinivasa Rao visited hilly areas that were affected by the heavy rains, on Saturday. The Commissioner said there was a possibility of the wall collapsing as it developed cracks at some places. The eviction helps in minimising the losses.
The Corporation staff should be alert round the clock, he said. Asking the officials to identify the houses that were in dilapidated and dangerous condition in Kothapeta and other areas, Mr. Ravi Babu directed them to serve notices on house owners, and evict them from their houses.
Interacting with the local people, he said the corporation would provide houses to people if they agreed to eviction.
The Commissioner, later, inspected the places where footwear shops complex, craft bazaar, and fish market were proposed, and asked the officials to commence works at the earliest.
‘Speed up works'
At Ajitsingh Nagar where fish market and shopping complex was being constructed, he asks the officials to speed up works. Inspecting the ongoing de-weeding works in Budameru drain near New Rajarajeswaripeta, he said the waste and water hyacinth removed from the drain should be disposed of immediately, he said.
Noticing that the rainwater stagnated at open places in Kedareswarapeta, Lotus Land Mark and other places, he directed the officials to take up anti-larval operations, and release gambusia fish to avoid breeding of mosquitoes.
Chief Medical Officer Of Health M. Satyanarayana Raju, City Planner Vidyullata, Executive Engineers Vijaybhaskar, Uday Bhasker, AMOHs Sridevi, Lakshmi Kumar, and Malaria Technical Advisor Rama Rao were among those present.
