March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Officials of Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department prevented a child marriage at Vambay Colony on the city outskirts on Monday. On information that the parents of a 16-year-old girl had fixed her marriage, the District Child Protection Unit staff of WD&CW rushed to the spot and met the elders.

“We bound over the parents of the bride, bridegroom, locals and the community elders, to ensure that the marriage would be performed only after the girl attains 18 years,” said District Child Protection Officer Ch. Vijay Kumar.
