Official's plea to NGOs

July 14, 2011 03:12 pm | Updated 03:12 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu asked the non-government organisations (NGOs) to create awareness among people about anti-larval operations and IRS spray in high risk areas.

The VMC organised a meeting with the NGOs here on Wednesday. On the occasion, Mr. Ravi Babu said that the NGOs' cooperation was required in making Vijayawada, a malaria-free city. The malaria team were spraying pyrethrum in high risk areas and areas near canals and drains. But, the people were resisting this due to lack of awareness. The NGOs should take up a campaign stressing the need for anti-malaria operations, he said.

The commissioner recalled that the corporation launched a helpline 18004252000 to provide medical assistance to the people suffering from fevers. The teams would conduct blood tests at their door step in response to a phone call. The medicines would also be supplied to the patients, he added.
