February 24, 2014 01:24 pm | Updated May 18, 2016 10:38 am IST - MACHILIPATNAM:

The RWS Department authorities have identified around 146 villages which are likely to face severe drinking water crisis in the summer in Krishna district.

The villages in the delta area would be expected to suffer drinking water crisis, despite having received a good amount of rain fall in the last rainy season. Release of water into the irrigation canals in the rabi season has thrown many villages out of drinking water.

“This summer the problem is likely to less in comparison with the last two years. There was no availability of water in the canals in the last two rabi seasons” said RWS Department Superintendent Engineer (FAC) Ch. Amaleswara Rao.

The villages in the areas such as Machilipatnam rural, Pedana, Kruthuvennu and Kaikaluru mandals would be worst affected among the identified 146 villages.

The officials are gearing up to deepen the borewells, apart from supply of water to the needy villages.
