The Krishna district officials are preparing to celebrate the ‘National Voters Day’ on a grand scale on January 25. As part of it, the officials have launched a drive to enlighten all students who attain 18 years of age to enrol their names in the electoral rolls.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had recently announced the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls by January 1. The final draft of photo electoral rolls will be published on January 5. In a meeting chaired by Sub-Collector S. Venkat Rao with principals of various colleges, the officer appealed to the managements to increase voter enrolment for good democracy.
The tahsildars (Mandal Revenue Officers) will visit the colleges and motivate the staff and students to increase the voter enrolment percentage. Form-6 blank forms will be distributed in all colleges and the managements have been requested to enrol the young voters.
The last date for enrolment of names in the voter’s list is October 31. Students have been requested to voluntarily enrol their names to exercise their franchise in the ensuing elections. The officials were involving all electors, political parties, local bodies and NGO to complete the task, he said.
All the graduates in degree, PG and professional colleges should enrol their names by November 6, for Krishna-Guntur Districts MLC Graduates Constituency. Form-18 forms were available in all the Tahsildar offices and students have been requested to submit a copy of the attested degree certificate along with the form, said Mr. Rao.
The ECI had directed the Government not to disturb the officers involved in voter enrolment process and fill up the vacancies in the departments concerned. The Collectors were instructed not to transfer the officers from October 1, till the final publication of photo electoral rolls.
