The zilla parishad has resolved to put up statues of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao and former Deputy Chief Minister Koneru Ranga Rao on its premises.
Zilla Parishad Chairman K. Nageswara Rao and others unveiled the statue of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy installed on the ZP campus, here on Thursday. Later, addressing the ZP meeting, Mr. Nageswara Rao said funds were earmarked for statues of N.T. Rama Rao and Koneru Ranga Rao. The works would be taken up shortly, he said. Hullabaloo prevailed in the meeting over alleged violation of protocol by officials, blocking of teacher posts, misutilisation of RWS funds, power connection to a rice mill, etc.
The Chairman assured the members that he was ready to release Rs. 15 lakh from sports head of the ZP funds, if the government permitted, to AP Study Circle in Vijayawada for the benefit of hundreds of meritorious students. MLC Jelli Wilson earlier pointed out that the study circle was facing dearth of funds.
He also agreed to release some funds to the stadium in Machilipatnam.
Earlier, the meeting witnessed animated discussion over blocking of teacher posts in the district. Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao alleged that 300 posts were deliberately blocked, and officials were demanding Rs. 50,000 to Rs.1 lakh for either stop the transfer or retain the teachers in an existing post.
Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal intervened and said the posts were blocked following a Government Order. He, however, assured the agitating members that the Education Department would seek a clarification from the government as to why it asked to block the posts.
MLAs Dasari Balavardhan Rao and Ambati charged that the officials were neglecting the protocol with regard to inaugurations and openings. Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal told the officials to take utmost care with regard to protocol putting an end to the discussion.
