An increasing number of women in city are catching up with their health by moving over from the kitchen and hitting the gym to shed flab and regain fitness.

Cashing in on this, S. Sahithi, an Ayurvedic doctor, has set up ‘Body and Soul’ a gym exclusively for women at Ayyappa Nagar behind Siris company. From treadmills, cross-trainers and Swiss balls to swingers and twisters, the gym has it all. “We established this gym a couple of months ago to enable women to keep fit and also to help them stress and other health problems like joint pain, backache at bay,” explains Ms. Sahithi.

Besides working women and college students, several housewives are also evincing interest in the gym. The enrolments may increase as there are many enquiries about the facilities as well as advantages of joining the gym. “It’s an encouraging sign and we intend to come up with new facilities to help them reduce weight,” she says.

Some 20-odd people comprising college students, working women and housewives visit the place. According to the trainer Sadiq, most of them are focusing on cardio-related exercises to reduce weight. “We advise them to continue the work outs regularly and at the same time maintain strict diet,” he says. He suggests side-stretches, abs, leg raises’ apart from walking on treadmill to tone the body to the clients.

Nannapuneni Ravali, a second-year medical student, goes about her daily exercises in the evening while listening to music. “I can find some change and I am overcoming stress slowly,” she says, adding that another advantage is that the gym is very close to her home. It is open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
