The Group of Ministers (GoM) on unemployment allowance has decided to prepare the guidelines in a month. The GoM will meet again in June and submit its report to the Cabinet in July for further action.

Disclosing details of the GoM meeting on Wednesday, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Kollu Ravindra said the government was collecting data and formulating guidelines for the scheme. Data was being gathered from various sources, including employment exchanges.

The government earmarked a budget of ₹500 crore for the scheme. If required, another ₹500 crore would be spent. The government was also planning to converge funds of education and other departments. BC, SC, ST Sub Plan funds would also be utilised, he said.

BC Welfare Minister K. Atchannaidu said the data available with the government on unemployment was no cohesive. While the Janmabhoomi data pointed that there were 14 lakh unemployed youth, a survey put it at 13 lakh.

The GoM was examining all these issues. It was of the view that the government should improve employment opportunities for youth after imparting training to them in skill development.

The GoM was examining the models adopted by other States.

While the West Bengal government was providing unemployment dole ranging between ₹1,000 and ₹1,500, some other States were paying ₹200.
