Noose tightens on Siddhartha Academy

The seizure of huge amounts of money from Siddhartha Academy at Moghalrajpuram is snowballing into a serious issue, with the court directing police to probe the case.

Just a day before polling (i.e., on May 6) flying squad and income tax (I-T) officials had raided the institute. They also conducted searches on the campus for three days and confiscated Rs. 3.74 crore from its premises.

With the management failing to produce proper documents, the I-T authorities recovered the cash and are inquiring into the matter.

Meanwhile, the district election authorities lodged a complaint with police over the seizure of cash from Siddhartha Academy.

When police approached the court over the complaint, the court directed them to register a case, said a police officer.

“Following the directions of the court, we registered a case under Section171 E of the IPC (Offence of Bribery) and took up investigation,” Machavaram Circle Inspector P. Murali Krishna Reddy said on Wednesday.

Police would inquire into the source of income, date of drawing the amount, bank from which it was drawn, salaries paid by the institute and bank accounts of employees.

“The seized amount is in no way related to political parties, and we told the I-T authorities about it,” Mr. Rao said.
