Almost the entire city police force is preoccupied with election duty

With the police personnel having their hands full with civic election duty, there were no police to regulate vehicular traffic on the city’s two main roads -- M.G Road and Karl Marx Road. Most of the traffic signals did not function throughout the day.

It was like a free run for the vehicles at junctions as traffic police were too busy to enforce discipline on roads. Iron barricades were the only means to slow down traffic at many places.

This has been the situation for the last few days as election fever gripped the city and the police have been in the thick of security arrangements as the general elections too drew closer.

On tenterhooks

Nearly 2,500 police personnel were deployed across the city for maintaining law and order and they have been on tenterhooks due to the volatile situation attributed to elections and also the sensitive issue of bifurcation.

Almost the entire city police force was preoccupied with election duty and Police Commissioner B. Sreenivasulu went around various divisions for keeping a watch on the developments. It was therefore a hectic day for the police and tougher times are ahead for them.
