‘No move to reduce water to Krishna delta’

June 26, 2014 11:18 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 03:01 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The decision taken by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan before the State bifurcation to release 10 tmc of water to Krishna delta to meet the drinking water needs of four districts till August has not been revised by the Krishna River Water management Board, according to Engineer-in-Chief, Irrigation and CAD Department here.

The officials in a release here on Thursday said that after reviewing the water position in the reservoirs of Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar, the Board Chairman A.B.Pandya ordered the Irrigation Department engineers to commence the release of water as agreed in the Governor’s meeting on March 21, 2014.

Mr. Pandya in the June 24 order said 6,000 cusecs of water per day be released to Krishna Delta System for a week and in the meantime the Board would meet and reassess the drinking water situation in both the States and manage the releases as per prevailing situations and revise the release schedule.

However a section of press reported that 10 tmc of water permitted by the Governor has been reduced to 3.6 tmc for drinking water needs of four districts which is not correct, the release said.
