Police have decided not to give permission for construction of bathing ghats in security zone in Vundavalli, Penumaka and other villages along the bund as a preventive measure.

With Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s camp office located on the river bank, police have already set up police check-posts and security points at several places.

“Due to security reasons, we asked the officials not to construct any ghats in the security zone. Additional security will be deployed in the capital villages and patrolling will be intensified along the river bund during Krishna Pushkarams,” a police officer said.

“We are planning to allot bathing ghats for VVIPs attending Krishna Pushkarams, in Guntur district. Focus will be laid on Amaravati and Vaikuntapuram temples during the utsavams. Likewise, steps will be taken to minimise crowds at the Durga and Krishnaveni ghats, located near PNBS and the railway stations,” the officer added.

Officials are also proposing for expansion of the main ghats which are closer to the bus and railway stations and decrease depth in the river at the major ghats to prevent accidents.

Expert swimmers from East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam districts and from Telangana State would be deployed with necessary boats and other life saving equipment, the officials said.
