No explosives, chemical substance found at blast site

January 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The explosion that killed three persons and injured several others at Chittinagar on Tuesday might have been due to gas leak, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials have said.

The FSL team, which collected samples from the spot, said no smell of chemical substance was felt nor splinters were found. A worn-out gas pipe recovered from damaged houses might have caused the leakage, officials said.

Meanwhile, Sub-Collector S. Nagalakshmi said the condition of the injured was stable. Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao handed over Rs. 2 lakh each to the kin of the dead and Rs. 25,000 to the four injured on Wednesday. An inquiry report on the explosion will be submitted after recording statements from the victims, she said.
