Former Minister Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru) has accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of undermining democratic values by going back on his election promises.

Mr. Rajasekhar showed to the media the video of an election speech by the Chief Minister in which he had promised to waive all agriculture loans and loans extended to Dwcra groups and weavers. “Mr. Naidu now says he had promised waiver of crop loans only and not waiver of loans given to Dwcra groups or other agriculture loans,” he said.

“Having allocated Rs. 5,000 crore for loan waiver in the State budget, the Chief Minister is now saying that only Rs. 50,000 will be paid to each farmer. He never revealed the actual number of beneficiaries. This is another attempt to mislead the public,” Mr. Rajasekhar added.

Recalling the way former Chief Minister late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had waived power bills and gave free power to farmers, the former Minister said that such measures were taken notwithstanding the size of land holding. “Mr. Naidu, in a way that was unbecoming of a Chief Minister, is claiming credit for several achievements. He had nothing to do with the debt relief scheme sanctioned by the Central government in 2008. But now, he claims the scheme became a reality mostly through his efforts,” he said.

But for laying the foundation stone for the Devadula project, the Chandrababu Naidu government had no achievement worth mentioning between 1995 and 2004, Mr. Rajasekhar said.

The TDP government is confidently saying it will complete the Polavaram Project because of the work done by the Congress government. “It was the Congress government at the Centre that gave the project a national project status.” he added.
