The dalits are the oppressed class for ages, but they continue to be downtrodden in the society. Society needs to change the conditions with Government taking active role from the time they are born till they are grown up, opined speakers at a seminar here on Monday.

“Government has very little consideration towards dalit girls,” alleged Dalit Sthree Sakthi state convenor G. Jhansi. Girls were being subjected to several harassments and their protection was the minimum responsibility of the Government, she opined at the seminar.

On the occasion of 65th Independence Day celebrations, the Dalit Sthree Sakthi organised a seminar on ‘Girls in India' at the Press Club here.

The opportunities in various sectors should be clearly explained to the girls and there was a need to develop a healthy environment between a girl and her parents so that the girl is not at a disadvantage, said Rajeev Vidya Mission G.C.D.O Prakash Kumari and P.G. Visalakshi.

All the participants in the meeting elaborated the problems of the dalit girls.

They opined that parents were the first source for the proper development of girls and appreciated the programmes that were taken to develop the dalits.

Secretary of the Children Rights Security Commission Francis, and Director of the Child line John Raj were also present.
