Facilities are being provided in Primary Health Centres, but mothers were not making use of them due to poor awareness, District Collector Budha Prakash M. Jyothi has said.

The Collector, who reviewed the implementation of welfare and health schemes for children and mothers at Chandrala village in Mylavaram Mandal of Krishna district on Friday, said that the Child and Women Welfare Department officials should work with coordination and commitment to put an end to deaths of mothers during delivery and of infants immediately after that.

He said that a new programme called ‘Maarpu’ was launched under the National Rural Health Mission to reduce the infant and maternal mortality.
