President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday presented Prakasam Collector G.S.R.K.R.Vijaykumar with ‘Saakshar Bharat’ award 2014 during the International Literacy day celebrations in New Delhi. This was in recognition of the district administration making 4.75 lakh people literate within nine months under the Prakasam Akshara Vijayam programme. The district, where the literacy rate went up by a whooping 16 per cent to 79 per cent, is now short of a mere one per cent to achieve the target set by the Union Human Resources Development ministry for the year 2015.
