The members of Aqua Devils Welfare Association (ADWA) were in a pleasant shock when Narasapur’s MP Gokaraju Gangaraju, who attended a function commemorating his 73rd birthday, donated 1,000 yards to the association.

The BJP leader said he was donating the land for the future use of the association which was spreading the concept of good health by promoting swimming among kids.

While thanking his gesture, ADWA president P. Ramachandra Rao said that under Mr. Raju’s leadership Andhra Cricket Association won laurels from the country’s cricketing fraternity as it gave importance to constructing quality infrastructure.

“In Guntur district alone we have four stadiums. Some states in the country don’t have even one. That is the vision of ACA,” he said.

Mr. Rao also said that Bhimavaram was able to get a passport office owing to the efforts of the MP.

Tree plantation drive

Meanwhile, ACA took up tree plantation drive in all the stadiums, playfields, offices and academies of 13 districts as part of the birthday celebrations its secretary. Administrators along with players and coaches took part in the programme from Chittoor to Srikakulam.

“A small plant today becomes big tree and gives the humanity shade, shelter, health and comfort. It is the duty of youngsters to nurture them for future generations,” felt ACA president D.V.S Somayajulu.

For the young academy boys it was an all new experience as they went around Mangalagiri, Vizianagaram and Kadapa stadiums to plant several saplings.

“Apart from Anantapur town, we conducted the drive in our 14 sub-centres in the district,” said Anantapur District Cricket Association secretary B.R. Prasanna in a release.
