Nandigama by-poll: 1,500 policemen on duty

A large contingent of 1,500 police personnel, including five companies of paramilitary forces, will be deployed for peaceful conduct of by-poll in Nandigama Assembly constituency on September 13, said Superintendent of Police G. Vijaya Kumar on Friday.

“As many as 29 hyper critical locations have been identified among the 109 locations under the Nandigama Assembly constituency. However, the two companies of paramilitary forces and AP Special Police will mostly be deployed at hyper critical and critical locations,” Mr. Vijaya Kumar told The Hindu . Deputy Superintendent of Police cadre officer was deployed in each of the four mandals to monitor the situation.

However, at least 26 route mobile teams led by police would keep an eye on security in the constituency, covering Veerullapadu, Chandarlapadu, Nandigama and Kanchikacharla. Two striking forces comprising unarmed and armed police would be deployed at the each polling station, promising necessary security.

The police and officials have identified 109 locations where 200 polling stations were set up, covering entire constituency in the polling. There are above 1.7 lakh voters, including above 90,000 women voters, in the constituency. Counting will be taken up on September 16.
