Managing Director of Film, TV, and Theatre Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh M. Dana Kishore has said the corporation will consider instituting awards for research in Telugu theatre art from next year.
He also announced that the corporation would consider enhancing remuneration for Nandi participants.
Following an appeal from Modali Nagabhushana Sarma, who was awarded NTR Rangasthala Puraskar at the close of Nandi Natakotsavam-2012 at Anand Gajapathi Auditorium here on Sunday night,
Mr. Kishore made the announcement. Promising support to theatre art, he said hereafter a monograph and history of district where the Nandi Natakotsavam is scheduled would be printed in advance.
Actors Tanikella Bharani, Gollapudi Maruti Rao, and ‘Kallu’ Chidambaram, Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah spoke.
Later, jury members of the natakotsavam announced names of the best dramas and play lets, amid loud cheers, in four categories viz. verse-drama, social drama, social playlet and children’s social playlet.
In all 43 plays and play lets were staged by 1100 artistes from January 20 to 27. Following is the list of best ‘Nandi’ award winning plays in four categories:
Verse drama
‘Babruvahana Vijayam,’ staged by Lalitha Kala Samiti, Kurnool, bagged the golden ‘Nandi’. While ‘Maha Saadhvi Shakuntala’ (Helapuri Cultural Association, Eluru), and Yamunaacharya (Sri Syamalamba Fine Arts Association, Vizianagaram) won silver and broze ‘Nandis respectively.
Social drama
‘Kotha Nayakudu’, staged by Aravinda Arts, Tadepalli, won golden Nandi, ‘Kalyani’ by Dakshinatya Arts Academy, Hyderabad got silver and, ‘Satva Sampada’ by Sri Jaya Arts, Valetivaripalem, Prakasam district, bagged bronze Nandi prizes.
Social playlet
‘Okka Maate Chaalu’ staged by Sri Sai Arts, Kolakaluru, Guntur district, won goldenNandi. While ‘Aachandrarkam’ by Sri Manikanta Arts, Pithapuram (E.G. District) won silver Nandi and ‘Samchalanam’ by Sri Murty Cultural Association, Kakinada, received bronze Nandi.
Children’s social playlet
Jaya, Jaya, Jayahe, Gururaja Concept School, Nandyal, ‘Mancholle’ by Zilla parishad high School, Rajampalli (Prakasam district), and ‘Ille Swargam’ by The Young Men’s Happy Club, Kakinada, won gold, silver and bronze Nandis respectively.
The special jury awards were given in verse drama category to ‘Sri Madhava Verma’ (staged by Dr. Raman Foundation’s Saibaba Natyamandali, Vijayawada, in social drama category to ‘The Leader Dr. Ambedkar’ (Padmabhushan Gurram Jashuva Memorial Arts, Bhimavaram), and in social play award went to ‘Chengalva Pudanda’ (Sri Kala Niketan, Hyderabad).
Apart from Nandi awards, cash prize of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 and citations were given to first, second and third prize winning plays in all the four categories.
Separate individual bronze Nandi awards besides cash prize of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 20,000 for best director, music director, make-up, stage decoration, lighting, story writer, comedian, actors, villain, and child artiste were also distributed.
