Despite visitors complaining about poor maintenance of toilets at Raghavaiah Park, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation appears to be least bothered. Making matters worse, Namma Toilets that were constructed some six months ago in the park are yet to be opened for visitors.
When VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian visited the park on Wednesday and enquired about the reasons for delay in opening the toilets, officials said outsiders were using them. The Commissioner told officials to construct barricades around the toilets to bar entry for outsiders. He asked them to open the toilets for visitors at the earliest. Instructions were given to officials to repair damaged and defunct toilets in Ambedkar Park.
Later, when Mr. Veerapandian visited the flower market at the Corporation office, vendors complained about the inconvenience caused by haphazard parking of lorries. Vendors said many trucks arrive in the morning hours at the vegetable market to unload stocks and drivers parked vehicles haphazardly. They suggested that trucks could be parked on the stretch behind Rajiv Gandhi Park. The Commissioner asked officials to ensure that no heavy vehicles coming to the vegetable market were permitted to head towards corporation office and cause inconvenience to flower vendors, said a press release.
