Even as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu immersed himself in the immediate task to put the successor Andhra Pradesh State on to the track after the swearing-in ceremony, groups of Telugus living offshore broke into celebrations.
Coinciding with Mr. Chandrababu Naidu’s oath-taking ritual, over 200 residents of Bloomington, a small city in the heart of Illinois in the United States, assembled at Bloomington and engaged in boisterous celebrations of TDP victory and the subsequent swearing-in by Chandrababu Naidu as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
A large chunk of the revellers were mobilised through social media network and the celebrations were kept open for participation to one and all.
Besides youngsters, an impressive crowd of elderly visiting parents, children and women comprised the crowd.
Braving heavy rain, the organisers set a perfect tone for the celebrations ahead by taking out a car rally which saw at least 50 sleek four-wheelers with the TDP flags fluttering atop the vehicles.
The 12-mile long rally which went around the city, culminated at the main venue – the conference hall of Parke Hotel where the vicinity was awash in bright hues of yellow.
Dressed in yellow, men and women spoke at length about the yeoman services rendered by matinee idol and TDP founder president, the late N.T. Rama Rao and the party’s current torch-bearer Chandrababu Naidu.
A quiz based on questions related to policies and schemes introduced by the TDP government kept everybody in good humour.
Recalling how former Governor of Illinois, Jim Edgar had created a ‘Naidu Day’ on September 24 , 1998 in honour of Chandrababu Naidu, the participants vowed their full support to his rule.
Bloomington has a population of 76,000 and of them, more than 2,000 people are from the Telugu land.
