Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said he was considering spending about five days a week in Vijayawada in a phased manner and monitor building of the capital closely.
In an interaction with senior journalists from the print media on the eve of completing 100 days in office, Mr. Naidu was reluctant to specify the time-frame for shifting of the capital to Vijayawada but said he would accomplish it “as early as possible.” He would like to spend more time there and had already asked heads of departments to shift there.
Conflicting views emerged over shifting to Vijayawada, he said. Some wanted him to stay in Hyderabad, joint capital for ten years as it would help him in strengthening the party in Telangana and be with top bureaucracy that appeared to be reluctant to shift there immediately. On the other hand, there was pressure from people in Andhra Pradesh to run the affairs of the state from the new capital as early as possible as his presence would give a boost to development. “Ï will have to strike a balance between aspiration of people and problems confronted in running the administration from a new place. I know there will be problems during the transition period but these will be sorted out soon.”
