TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday criticised Chief Minister K. Rosaiah for not showing enough mobility in overseeing the relief measures for the flood-affected victims.
Braving incessant rain and the cyclone warning, Mr. Naidu undertook his visit in the flood-hit areas in the delta area and interacted with those hit by rain at Veeravasaram, Lankalakoderu, Palacole, Medapadu, Vaddiparru and reached Eluru after covering Tanuku in the late night.
The plight of paddy growers moved the TDP chief at Veeravasaram. The farmers displayed the paddy subjected to discolouring due to floods. Many vehicles got stranded on the Bhimavaram-Palacole road for more than an hour because of Mr. Naidu's interaction with the farmers.
Addressing the media, women and peasant groups en route, Mr. Naidu recalled how he had turned Rajahmundry a ‘mini-Secretariat' and ran administration from there during the 1996 cyclone. “Such mobility on the part of the Chief Minister is now conspicuously missing,” he added.
The TDP leader said Mr. Rosaiah ended up with an aerial survey which led the official machinery to be lethargic in extending relief operations to the victims.
Mr. Naidu claimed to play a constructive role at the present juncture and called upon his party ranks to work for the cause of the flood victims.
The tenant farmers told the former chief minister that they found it difficult to take up cultivation in view of the soaring lease rates and the credit cost. The women sought his help so as to free themselves from the clutches of the micro finance institutes .
