Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has dared the Congress to seek the people’s mandate and put an end to ‘double game’ on the proposed division of the State. During his ‘Atmagaurava Yatra’ in Krishna District on Tuesday he also asserted that the TDP would solve the Telangana problem in six months to a year if voted to power. He, however, did not elaborate on this.
Mr. Naidu visited hamlets and thandas near here as part of his yatra. He suggested the Congress party to earnestly resolve the issue but not to precipitate and incite regional passions. The people would not keep quiet and display their might and would dig the grave for the Congress for tricking them on Telangana issue, he said.
Attacks Sonia
AICC president Sonia Gandhi was unaware of Telugu culture and heritage, he said. “All she wants is to make her son Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister. If they think they can sit in Delhi and decide the fate of Telugu people, we will teach them a lesson,” he added.
Explaining the TDP’s ambivalent stand on Telangana, Mr. Naidu said that the TDP had indeed given a letter to solve Telangana issue in 2008. Much prior to that, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy sent a delegation to Ms. Sonia Gandhi in 1998 and joined hands with the TRS in elections.
The Congress party, however, took a decision in 2013, blaming the Telugu Desam in Seemandhra and claiming credit for ‘so-called justice’ in Telangana, he said.
Charging the Congress party with tricking the people on Telangana issue, he said the Congress was seeking TRS and YSR Congress support in Telangana and Seemandhra respectively. As quid pro quo, YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy needs bail, he said, adding, “the Congress wanted to retain power at the cost of Telugus. But it will never happen.”
Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana Rao, Tiruvur MLA N. Swami Das, TDP Urban president K. Nagul Meera and others were present.
