A 450-seat capacity musical fountain auditorium in Machilipatnam Municipal Park has lost its sheen and is crying for attention to resume its operations for the past six months.
The fountain, sole attraction for the visitors, was installed in early 2006 and enthralled the visitors till early this year. Apart from getting habituated to an exhilarating experience to observe water dance to the tune of songs, the visitors used to have a cool atmosphere and delighted them in the evenings.
By providing good view point and comfortable seating facilities in the open auditorium, the authorities operated the fountain for four hours a day in the evening till it broke down needing repair.
The cost of the musical fountain project was above Rs.15 lakh and occupied almost half acre prime space in the five-acre park.
“Visitors completely enjoyed the Bangalore-based firm’s entertainment technology package and made it one of their must-visit spot in Masula,” said park superintendent B. Venkateswara Rao. Machilipatnam Municipality Engineering Department’s negligence to resume the fountain operation by getting it repaired drew flak from visitors.
None of the officials has basic information about the fountain and expressed his helplessness to get the fountain repaired.
Speaking to The Hindu, Chief of the Engineering Wing G. Pradeep Kumar said it was not installed during his tenure so did not have much information about it.
“There was no constraint of funds to repair the fountain, but we lost the contacts of the Bangalore-based engineers, who supplied the equipment and can repair it,” said Mr. Pradeep Kumar.
The municipal authorities did not make an attempt to get the repair done despite several complaints.
Of late, the park has not been generating income as the key attraction was lost.
