A four-member committee led by Archaeology and Museums Director G.V. Ramakrishna Rao will meet freedom fighters of Krishna district on May 5 in view of the new Bapu Museum coming up at the erstwhile Victoria Jubilee hall, and to discuss steps taken to showcase the historical building for the benefit of the pilgrims for pushkarams.
Deputy Director K.S.D. Kesava Rao, Satavahana College Sanskrit lecturer Chakravarti and Museum incharge Deepak are the other members of the committee.
Speaking to The Hindu , he said the meeting, chaired Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad, will discuss issues such as seeking vintage photographs and material of freedom movement from them for display in the ground floor.
“These veterans must be having some historical facts about the freedom struggle. We would like to collect and display them in the museum for the future generation. We will be installing a separate bulletin board which will carry the names of donors and the material they donated,” he pointed out.
Mr. Rao said the first floor will be an exclusive enclosure for freedom movement housing scenes of the struggle involving leaders and masses. “As the new coastal museum, which is coming up adjacent to the old structure housing the artefacts such as sculptures, idols, inscriptions, paintings, cutlery and weapons; we want to make Victoria Jubilee hall a hub of freedom movement by displaying various vignettes of the era”. He said the scenes would be depicted in ‘diarama’ method which would project the objects made of marble in three-dimensional genre. “Scenes such as Pingali Venkayya handing over the national tri-colour to Mahatama Gandhi and 1921 All India Congress Committee meeting in which Gandhi took part will be the highlights”. Mr. Rao said the top floor will be entirely earmarked for photographs of freedom fighters from all over the country with emphasis to tyagis from Andhra region. The museum authorities have so far spent Rs. 42 lakh for the renovation of the old structure.
