Municipal Commissioner raps park supervisor for apathy

February 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian has experienced the apathetic attitude of corporation supervisors’ in maintaining parks in the city. A fortnight ago, the Commissioner inspected Urmila Subbarao Nagar Park and residents had complained about poor maintenance and said it was becoming a safe haven for miscreants.

Local corporator B. Sandhyarani informed that drunkards frequent the park and eve teasers create nuisance. She suggested that if the park was maintained properly, it would be used by local residents for recreation.

In reply, Mr. Veerapandian instructed the officials to ensure more greenery and proper maintenance. He also said play equipment should be provided for children in the park. Despite the instructions, things remained the same, much to the dismay of the Commissioner, when he during his visit to the park on Tuesday found that the park supervisor had failed in commencing the works for developing the park.

The Commissioner directed the officials to commence the works at the earliest and make the park eligible for public utility in a week. Later, Mr.Veerapandian asked officials to levy a penalty of Rs.5, 000 against a private function hall management in Kothapeta for dumping waste on the road despite there being a provision of dumper bin in the area. “If the management fails to fall in line, seize the function hall,” the Commissioner told the officials.
