Modi writes a letter to Turlapati

June 08, 2014 10:33 pm | Updated 10:33 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

On Saturday morning, veteran journalist and Padmasri awardee Turlapati Kutumba Rao had a pleasant surprise when he received a letter from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Rao had written to Mr. Modi before the general election counting in May, wishing him success. “I wished him and said the writing was clear on the wall about his victory and becoming Prime Minister,” Mr. Rao said.

He added that he was impressed with Mr. Modi’s letter.

“He thanked me for the wishes and said the victory was as much the people’s, as it was of the NDA or the Bharatiya Janata Party. He also said it was time to ignite the lamp of progress, which will take our nation to the role of a ‘Jagadguru Bharat’,” said Mr. Rao.

The fact that he replied to my letter dated May 19 before he was sworn in as the Prime Minister makes it important, observed Mr. Rao.
