It was an educating experience for students of V.P. Siddhartha Public School when firemen descended on the school campus to demonstrate a mock fire fighting operation.
The department personnel, under the guidance of B. Srinivas Rao, Fire Officer of Krishna Lanka fire station, demonstrated the utility of fire extinguishers during the time of emergency.
Delivering a fire safety talk, Mr. Srinivas Rao said these preventive measures could be of immense use at the time of a fire mishap sky scrapers, petrol gas filling stations and factories.
It was essential for children to know what triggered fire and the set of preventive measures to be exercised if a fire broke out to save lives and property.
The department personnel invited a boy to come forward and demonstrated the use of a ‘chair knot' (a rope wrapped around a person and tied as if he is sitting on a chair) used to save fire victims from high buildings.
They also explained the significance of life jackets, ladders and their proper use for extinguishing fire. Principal C.V. Ramanaiah, headmistress Latha Kumari and P. Sarojini Devi and others were also present.
