The National Child Labour Project (NCLP) and the labour department will conduct surprise raids and special drives to check child labour in Krishna district, said NCLP district Project Director (PD) D. Anjaneya Reddy.
The team, led by Mr. Reddy, raided a house at Hanumanpeta in the city and rescued a child worker. The minor girl was engaged for domestic work a few months ago.
Officials registered a case against the employer under the provisions of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986.
The house owner had paid ₹26,000 to the victim, which was handed to her family members, the PD said.
More raids
“Following the directions of Collector B. Lakshmikantham, the raids are being conducted. We will conduct more surprise checks on shops, cinema halls, houses, garages, industries and other establishments to check child labour,” the PD said.
