Transport Minister K. Atchannaidu and Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao flagged off nine Amaravati Volvo buses at Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) here on Monday.
The new buses would be operated on Vijayawada-Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad routes. Ten more Amaravati bus services will be launched shortly, said Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Managing Director M. Malakondaiah.
The Ministers performed puja and verified the seating and other facilities in the new buses. Mayor Koneru Sridhar, APSRTC Executive Director (ED-Administration) A.V. Rao, ED (Operations) G. Jaya Rao, Chief Traffic Manager (CTM) K.S. Brahmananda Reddy, officers K. Krishna Mohan, K.V.R.K. Prasad, K. Gopinath Reddy and others participated.
Speaking on the occasion, the Transport Minister said the corporation has come out of ₹350 crore losses by January this year and will run in profits in the coming days.
Occupancy ratio
With regard to performance, the occupancy ratio (OR) which was 67.19% last year has increased to 73.14% and the average daily earnings this year were ₹12.37 crore every day, which were ₹12.10 crore in 2017. A super speciality hospital has been sanctioned for APSRTC staff and steps are being taken to allot doctors and other staff, the Minister said.
Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said APSRTC is the only organisation which was paying ₹8 crore salaries per day, by transporting about 67 lakh passengers every day.
