The State government is proposing to complete the delta modernisation works worth of Rs. 600 crore in view of crop holiday for the rabi season. The government is also planning to replace KE Regulator with a new one.

Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy reviewed the delta modernisation works here on Thursday. Disclosing the details, he said the works would be commenced by January 10, 2012. The contractors would have to procure necessary material in December and be prepared to take up the works. About 80 per cent of the civil works related to KE Regulator would be completed now, he said.

The government would have to approve the designs and drawings which were ready, he said, adding, a new regulator was being planned in view of surge in water requirements and ayacut under the delta. If these works were completed, not much problem would arise even if water in Pulleru was not available.

Nearly 30 to 40 per cent of Ryves' Canal works like retaining walls would also have to be completed as the canal was being redesigned to suit 5200 cusecs flow of water as against the existing capacity of 4,200 cusecs. District Collector S.A.M. Rizvi, Irrigation SE P.V.S.M.S. Sai, DSE Ramakrishna, EEs Ramesh Babu and Nageswara Rao and others were present.
