Secondary and Intermediate Education Minister K. Parthasarathi hoisted the national flag at the Police Parade grounds and received the guard of honour from the police, NCC, Scouts and Guides, and Indian Red Cross Society members in connection with the 66 Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday.
The Minister, in his message, highlighted the achievements of the government and explained the status of welfare schemes being implemented by both the State and Central governments for farmers, SCs, STs, BCs, minorities, women groups, students, and the poor in Krishna district.
Education fortnight
Officials admitted 60,000 children who attained five years and were not on the school rolls and dropouts during special education fortnight held in the district.
MP K. Narayana Rao, Collector Buddha Prakash Jyothi, District Judge Manavendranath Roy, Superintendent of Police R. Jaya Lakshmi, District Legal Services Authority secretary Kasi Visweswara Rao, Additional Joint Collector N. Ramesh Kumar, District Revenue Officer L. Vijay Chander, and officials from the judiciary, the National Disaster Response Force, and other departments attended.
AP Housing, MGNREGS, Medical and Health, Rajiv Vidya Mission, Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, and other departments arranged tableaux on their achievements, which attracted the audience. Cultural programmes such as ‘Purna Vandemataram’ by Government Ramjee High School, Machilipatnam, ‘Desh Rangela Rangela’ by Municipal High School, Desaipeta, ‘Uppu’ dance by Navodaya Vidyalaya and ‘Vishala Visvamlo’ by Hyny High School were performed. The government had set a target to impart training to 22,000 youths under Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu. Of them, training was given to 7,300 youths and 6,000 were provided job, the Minister said. Later, Mr. Parthasarathi and the officers met freedom fighters during the programme.
Tributes paid to Gandhi
Krishna University Vice-Chancellor V. Venkaiah and Registrar D. Suryachandra Rao garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the university campus. The Vice-Chancellor recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and said the university should be a role model for all educational institutions.
