The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)’s constituency-wise mini-Mahanadus concluded on Wednesday with Mylavaram constituency Mahanadu being the last one in the row.
The TDP Krishna district’s mini-Mahanadu is slated to be held at Machilipatnam on May 25.
A bird’s eye view of the mini Mahanadus give an impression that the mini Mahanadus failed to enthuse the cadre though the meetings were held from dawn to dusk at a few constituencies. The cadre mobilisation was at its low.
The party workers were not seen at a time when resolutions were adopted or discussed. At constituencies like Gannavaram, the attendance was very thin. Lack of strong leadership was evidently witnessed at some meetings. The impact of exit of MLAs -- Kodali Srivenkateswara Rao (Nani), Gudivada, and Chinnam Ramakotaiah (Nuzvid)—from the party, demise of Ambati Brahmanaiah (Avanigadda MLA) was evident. The Nuzvid and Penamaluru constituencies remain orphan with no party in charge there.
The party has not named any leader for Penamuluru after demise of Chalasani Pandu. There are no strong leaders to take up the cudgels there. Except in constituencies like Mylavaram, which is represented by district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, the conclaves were namesake. The leaders, who are crossing swords day in and day out, shared dais at some meetings. But, they stuck to their guns and indulged in wordy duel claiming they have fair chances of contesting in 2014 elections.
For instance, both former MP Gadde Ramamohan Rao and Vijayawada parliamentary constituency incharge Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) have been claiming that they would contest for Vijayawada MP seat. These aberrations have sent wrong signals and are confusing the cadre.
A similar situation was witnessed when Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu asked the district leaders to take up padayatra on the lines of Vastunna Meekosam padayatra. The TDP leaders came up with pleas such as expenditure involved in padayatra, plans to launch the programme after Deepavali.
