The Youth Congress has taken up a membership drive in its preparation for the first-ever internal elections in the State. As part of this, Congress party's youth wing leaders from the centre are visiting different parts of the State to spread awareness about the membership and organisational polls.

Youth Congress membership drive in charge V. Venkatesh is currently on a visit to Vijayawada to oversee the progress of the programme. He has held meetings with the local youth wing leaders and aspirants to give a push to the drive.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Venkatesh said that the conduct of internal elections was a historic step taken by the All India Youth Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who had a vision to strengthen the youth leadership at every level.

As the country was witnessing a surge of youth leadership all over, the shift to electing youth leaders in place of just nominating them would go a long way in creating best leaders of tomorrow, he added.

Mr. Venkatesh and Congress city president Pyla Somi Naidu, who was also present, said that the membership drive was presently going on and he would be visiting Guntur and Narasaraopet Lok Sabha constituencies in the next few days as part of this.
