Medals presented for outstanding students

It was raining medals at the 17th annual convocation of Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences, held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram on Saturday.

While all 46 gold medallists and 16 silver medallists were the shining stars of the day, a few of them exuded that extra gleam and became the cynosure of all eyes. Vasanthi Bondugula of PMIDC, Hyderabad, shone brightest of all, thanks to the five medals that sparkled through her white robes.

She bagged the Colgate Palmolive Gold Medal for securing highest marks in orthodontia in BDS in OU region, the Late Dr. K.M. Gandhi Gold Medal for securing highest marks in oral surgery in BDS State-wide, Coastal Andhra branch of Indian Dental Association Gold Medal for ‘Best Outgoing Student in Finals BDS, State-wide and Dr. K. Chiranjeevi Gold Medal for Best Outgoing Student in BDS and for securing highest marks in periodontia examination in first attempt.

This is in addition to a silver medal (Dr. Patur Ramachandra Reddy Memorial Medal for securing highest marks in oral surgery in final BDS at State-level.

Amtul Shafi of SIMS, Hyderabad, won three gold and one silver medals. She was presented with Dr. T. Srinivasan Memorial Gold Medal for best outgoing student in medicine in MBBS at State-level, Dr. Pulaparti Srinivas Memorial Gold Medal for best student in medicine in final MBBS at State-level, T. Saroja Murthy Gold Medal for securing first position in medicine in final MBBS at State-level and a silver medal (Kumari M. Jayalakshmi Memorial Medal) for best outgoing women student in medicine in final MBBS, OU region.

Manju Misra was presented with two gold and one silver medal. She bagged Dr. Dharmavaram Amruthavalli Memorial Charitable Trust Gold Medal for securing highest marks in MD (Paediatrics) at State-level, Late Dr. Krishna Rao Purohit Gold Medal for best outgoing student in MD (Paediatrics) at State-level and a silver medal (S.V. Rao and M.M. Swamy Medal) for passing MD Part-II (Paediatrics) in first attempt with best dissertation.

S. Harika of MMC, Khammam and B. Vijayalakshmi of OMC, Hyderabad, also won two gold medals each.

For the first time, the University also conferred nine Ph.Ds. The recipients were Purnasingh Addanki (Physiology), Bandarupalli N. Kumar (Anatomy), Srinivasa Rao Bolla (Anatomy), Vijaya Durga Suryadevara (Microbiology), K.J. Lavanya Lakshmi (Kayachikitsa –dravyaguna), Ratnakaram Vidyanath (Basic principles of Ayurveda –Dravyagunam), D. Vijaya Ganeshwar Reddy (Kayachikitsa – Dravyagunam), Kurapati Vijaya Kumari (Shalya –Dravyagunam) and Goli Penchala Prasad (Dravyagunam –Kayachikitsa).
